Dr. Huang He, MD, PhD, provided an update on the experience of CAR T-cell therapy in China over an interview took place at the EBMT-EHA 6th European CAR T-cell Meeting in Valencia, Spain.
Prof. Huang from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Zhejiang, China, emphasizes the growing number of clinical trials and the expanding use of CAR T-cell therapy in clinical practice. He expresses optimism that collaboration between China and European countries will further advance the CAR-T field in China.

According to Prof. Huang, CAR T-cell therapies such as Yescarta, Carteyva, and Fucaso are now available in hundreds of hospitals across China. These innovative treatments are currently focused on targeting CD19 and BCMA in hematologic malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
Beyond commercial CAR T-cell products, hundreds of clinical trials are actively conducted in China aiming at discovering new therapeutic targets, such as dual-targets, CD7, and myeloid targets. The goal is to expand treatment options for cancer patients. Prof. Huang envisions a future with numerous CAR T-cell therapies for blood cancers with various types of treatment targets.
Prof. Huang also highlighted that the number of clinical trials and CAR T-cell applications in practice is growing rapidly in China, surpassing the U.S. and making China the global leader in CAR T-cell therapy research. Most of these studies are supported by biopharmaceutical companies and laboratories, whose combined strengths are accelerating progress in the field.
At the conclusion of the interview, Prof. Huang expressed optimism that collaboration between China and European countries will further enhance the development of CAR T-cell therapies in China.
