CAR-T cell therapy is an advanced immunotherapy that reprograms a patient’s own T cells to recognize and destroy cancer or disease-causing cells. Originally developed for blood cancers that were resistant to standard treatments, CAR-T cell therapy has now expanded to include more diseases, thanks to ongoing research and clinical success in China.
Blood Cancers
CAR-T cell therapy has shown the greatest success in treating certain blood cancers. In China, several CAR-T products have already been approved for clinical use.

These approvals make China one of the global leaders in commercial CAR-T therapy availability.
Solid Tumors
While solid tumors pose more challenges, CAR-T cell therapy in China is advancing rapidly.
Autoimmune Diseases
Recent breakthroughs show that CAR-T therapy can reset the immune system in severe autoimmune conditions. Chinese research centers and hospitals are leading early trials for:
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Myasthenia gravis (MG)
In some cases, patients have achieved complete remission after a single infusion, suggesting that CAR-T may offer a potential cure for otherwise treatment-resistant autoimmune disorders.
Pediatric Indications
Children with relapsed leukemia or lymphoma can also benefit from CAR-T therapy.
Future Directions
The scope of CAR-T therapy continues to grow in China, with over a hundred active clinical trials exploring new targets and diseases. Its applications are expanding beyond cancer into chronic viral infections and immune-mediated disorders. Innovative strategies like dual-target CAR-T cells, armored CAR-Ts, and regional delivery are showing encouraging early results.
