  2. Targeting Cancer Cells: The CARs on the engineered T cells are tailored to recognize unique proteins or markers (antigens) present on the cancer cells. This specificity allows the CAR T cells to selectively bind to and identify cancer cells while largely ignoring normal, healthy cells.
  3. Activation and Attack: Once the CAR T cells are infused back into the patient, they seek out and attach to the cancer cells through the CARs. This binding activates the T cells, triggering them to destroy the targeted cancer cells through various mechanisms, including releasing cytotoxic substances that induce cell death.
  4. Persistence and Surveillance: The engineered T cells can persist in the body and continue to recognize and eliminate cancer cells over time, offering ongoing surveillance and protection against cancer recurrence.
